Team 5-1

Mrs. Vo

Jillian Judkins

Hi! My name is Jillian Judkins Vo. I was born in Twin Falls, Idaho, but my family moved to Rexburg when I was still a baby. I am the middle child with two older brothers and two younger brothers. Three of my brothers are married, so I have three sisters-in-law. I also am lucky enough to be an aunt to two adorable nieces, and two sweet nephews. I was a member of Idaho Ballroom Academy in Rexburg for 10 years. I graduated from Madison High School and graduated from Brigham Young University Idaho with a degree in Elementary Education. In July 2020, I married my husband Andy. He is a student at BYU-Idaho.

I have wanted to be a teacher for a long time. I have had so many teachers that have had a positive influence on my life. I hope to be able to influence my students the same way my teachers influenced me. I believe the classroom is a place where students should feel welcome and safe. In this type of environment students can learn and grow to the best of their abilities. I am so excited to be a part of this wonderful team and get to know all of you this year!

Mrs. Godfrey

Becky Godfrey

My name is Becky Godfrey and I have loved reading and writing ever since I can remember.  Two years ago, I became a librarian at Madison Middle School, and that is when I discovered that I also love being around middle schoolers.  Nothing made my day as a librarian like showing an eager reader the book they were looking for or a hesitant reader a book that could open the door to a love of reading.  As a reading and language arts teacher, I am eager to help students learn even more about the power of words, both their own and those of others.

I grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest city of Vancouver, Washington, where I loved exploring the coasts, mountains, and even the rainforest around my home state.  After high school I moved to Rexburg, met my husband, graduated from Ricks College, and finished my degree at Idaho State University.  I taught 4th grade for one year before taking some time off to raise our 6 children.   My husband and I still have two teenage boys at home who keep us happy and busy.

I feel lucky to work with the wonderful students at Madison Middle School and to teach with Miss Judkins and Mr. Tanner.  They care so much about their students and work hard to help them achieve their potential.  It will be a great year on Team 5-1!

Mr. Tanner

Matt Tanner

My name is Matt Tanner and I absolutely thrilled to finally be a teacher!  I am the third oldest of eight children in my family.  My mom was a stay at home mom and my Dad has been an Elementary school Principal for the past 20+ years.  I got married this past summer, 2018, and my Wife Amy works in clothing construction and alterations here in town.  I was born and raised in Southern California but I attended college and graduated at Brigham Young University Idaho with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Social Studies.  I am a huge sports enthusiast and believe that people need many different activities and hobbies to truly discover their passions and talents.  I feel Education is a wonderful way to interact with others, and discover talents and interests.

My personal belief on education is that it is a lifelong process.  I tell all my students, daily, two main factors that I firmly believe and follow.  I believe that people do not say they love each other enough and therefore people need to be told they are loved and cared for.  I also believe that people are terrified of not being perfect.  So given this trend I have seen in my life, I literally tell my students every single day as they walk out the door, “I love you and it is okay to make mistakes.”  I encourage my students to give their best effort, every time, no matter what subject they are in.  Life is all about learning.  Students need to realize that they can learn as they go, and that always giving their best effort is the way they will find true success.
